Jean Annette Sonnenberg, 63, of the Round Lake Community started her journey on September 14, 2020 at her home with her husband by her side shortly after visiting with many family and loved ones. Her Ojibwe name is Besho-Gabawiikwe "Stands Close Woman". She was born on October 3, 1956 to Kenneth and Lucille (Barrett) Rainey on the Red Lake Reservation. She was born into the Bear Clan from the Red Lake Ojibwe Nation.

Jean was a wonderful cook. She loved family gatherings and always looked forward to chances to visit with her extended family and friends. She loved her children and grandchildren/great-grandchildren and enjoyed going to their sporting events. She also enjoyed going for drives in the country. Jean loved Pow Wow dancing and singing and was known in the Pow Wow circuit as Mama Thunder and as a seamstress for native regalia and for her beadwork.

Jean is survived by her husband Bruce, son Conrad Rainey, daughter Tonya Rainey, son Bruce Rainey, son George Rainey, son William Rainey, son Jason Rainey, son Andrew Sonnenberg, daughter Amanda Sonnenberg, son Michael Rainey, daughter Autumn Sonnenberg, son Christifer Sonnenberg, daughter Patricia Sonnenberg, sister Judy Barrett, brother Sam (Cindy) Rainey, sister Doreen (Mario) Perez, brother Myron Rainey, sister Janet Pendleton, brother Joseph Rainey, sister Elaine Rainey, many, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by Parents Kenneth and Lucille Rainey, brother Kenneth "Boy" Rainey, sister Diane Polar, sister Debra Roberts, brother Stuart Rainey, brother Harold Rainey, and sister Josephine Rainey.

Services will be held at 10AM September 17, 2020 at the Maple Plain Community Center. Burial will follow at the Maple Plain Community Center. Pall Bearers will be Neil Oustigoff, Mike Fickbohm, Danny Bugg, Bob Morrison, Tyrone Awanahopay, Tyler Buck Jr., Mark Stoner, and Steven Mallory. Honorary Pallbearers are Rod Morrison, Marcus Rainey and Dezz Rainey, Alan Pendleton Jr., Jeremy Littlepipe, Joe Rainey Sr. (Little Joe), Earl Rainey, and Steve Rainey.
