In Memory of Jean Semanko


September 17, 1940 - April 28, 2019

Jean Semanko, age 78, a resident of Spooner and formerly of Minong, died on Monday, April 29, 2019, at the Maple Ridge Care Center in Spooner.  

Jean was born on September 17, 1940, in Sarona, Wisconsin to parents Eugene and Helen (Baker) Mommsen.  She attended grade school in Sarona and later graduated from Spooner High School.  On August 9, 1969, she was united in marriage to David Semanko in Spooner.  Jean was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church in Minong and served on the Church Council for several years.  She was also an active member of the Minong Community serving on the Zoning Committee and on the Election board, and was a member of TOPS.  Jean worked as a daycare provider in Minong for the majority of her working years.  She will be remembered as a caring, humble, and giving person, and also for her sense of humor that she shared with her husband David.  

Jean is survived by her children: Tim Stariha of Ogilvie, MN, Tony Stariha of Shell Lake, WI, Steven (Shellie) Stariha of Trego, WI, Shellie Ricci of Minong, WI, Julie (Timothy) Levake of Lino Lakes, MN, 13 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, brothers and sisters: Joyce (Art) Heppner of Paris, VA, Jim (Connie) Mommsen of Springbrook, WI, Jill Mitchell of Fridley, MN, and many other family and friends.

Jean is preceded in death by her husband David, daughter Susan Stariha and her parents Eugene and Helen.

Funeral services for Jean Semanko will be held on Monday, May 6, 2019, at 11am, at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Minong with Pastor Kevin Kaiser officiating.  Visitation will be on Monday, from 10-11am, at the Church.  Interment will follow at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.  Casket bearers will be David Stariha, Phillip Semanko, Garrett Levake, Dylan Semanko, Dakota Semanko, and Joe Semanko.
