In Memory of Jean Leckel

December 14, 1956 - February 3, 2022

Jean Leckel, age 65, of Spooner passed away peacefully at her daughter’s house on Thursday, February 3, 2022, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.

In 1956, Jean was born to parents John E. and Beverly (Christison) Pittman. She grew up with her family in the Afton area and learned how important and valuable family is at an early age. Jean cherished so many memories growing up in that area while building strong relationships with her siblings.

After high school, Jean moved to Turtle Lake, Wisconsin. She worked at the New Frontier Restaurant as a waitress where she met Randolph (Randy) Leckel. In 1977, the couple were married and resided in Spooner on County Hwy K. This area was a close-knit neighborhood that consisted of family and friends, and this was Jean’s home for 44 years.

In 1978, Jean and Randy welcomed their daughter, Angela, into the world. Jean was an incredible mother who embodied kindness, love and support. She created a very special bond with her daughter and later in life extended this to her son-in-law, Tony.  Jean’s greatest pride and joy were her two grandsons, Marcus and Andreus.

Jean worked at various local businesses which included Open Kitchen, Mobil, and most recently Holiday for 15 years. Jean connected with many co-workers and community members and cherished the relationships that were created.

Jean was known as a giver and naturally made sure that everyone was taken care of. Jean believed in sprinkling kindness wherever she went which led to many calling her “Grandma Jean”.

Jean is survived by her daughter Angela (Tony) Schoettle of River Falls, WI, grandsons Marcus and Andreus Schoettle of River Falls, WI, sister Eileen (Mike) Lundin of Hudson, WI, brother Robert “Bob” Pittman of Spooner, WI, sister-in-law Penny Pittman of Mason, MI, aunt, uncle, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

Jean is preceded in death by her husband Randy, parents John E. and Beverly Pittman, sister Marlene Roepke and brother John L. Pittman.

Memorial services for Jean Leckel will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at 1pm at the Spooner Funeral Home with a time for gathering of friends and family on Saturday from noon until 1 at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Rocky Ridge Cemetery next to her husband Randy.

Jean Leckel’s family would like to thank St. Croix Hospice. We are so grateful for the compassion, care, and professionalism they gave Jean and her family.
