In Memory of Jarold Nelson

May 26, 1935 - March 15, 2021

Jarold John Nelson passed away suddenly and peacefully March 15, 2021 in Grantsburg, Wisconsin.

He was born May 26, 1935 on the family farm, north of Luck Wisconsin, the second son of John and Lucille (Coddington) Nelson. After graduating from Luck High School and vocational school in Chicago, he landed a job at McNally Brothers machine shop in Grantsburg on the first workday of 1956. It was there that he met his bride, Shirley Larson. Married in 1957, they made their home in the village of Grantsburg, before building a new home outside of town, while raising two sons, Ricky, and Dean. After more than 30 years with McNally’s, he went solo in his own shop for another 25 years.

Summer vacations were frequently out west or south, and often included rock hounding. Holiday weekends were good for tent camping in the Upper Peninsula or along the North Shore of Lake Superior.

Jarold enjoyed deer hunting, wildlife photography, wood working, walks in the woods, and gardening. Weekends meant going to auctions and garage sales. He loved examining historical photos of the area.
Driving to Cambridge for the cheaper gasoline was a good excuse to take a wander thru Menards, and then stop for a burger at Hardees.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley Ann; sons, Ricky Lee, and Dean Jeffrey; sister-in-law, JoAnne Nelson; and brothers in law, Leslie (Barb) Larson and Dennis (Joanne) Larson; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his brother Ewa Nelson, brother-in-law Robert Larson and Robert’s wife Kathleen (Corty) Larson.

A private service will be held at a later date.
