In Memory of James L. Wervey


April 2, 1932 - May 1, 2024

James Lewis Wervey, age 92 of Rice Lake Wisconsin, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 1, 2024.

Jim was born on April 2,1932 in Bozeman, Montana to Frederick and Minnie (Jones) Wervey. At the age of 9 he moved with his parents to Birchwood, Wisconsin where he attended middle and high school. Early on he met Jeanette Busse who became his childhood sweetheart and love of his life. They married on May 17, 1952. After high school they moved to Milwaukee where he began his career working for the Wisconsin Electric Power Company (now WE Energies). During his 42 years of service, he worked his way up the ladder from poleman to Foreman. After raising their children and upon retirement, Jim and Jeanette returned to the Birchwood area and lived on Big Lake Chetac. In 2002 they moved to the town of Rice Lake, Wisconsin. Jim was a member of Our Lord’s United Methodist Church while living New Berlin, Wisconsin. When he retired to the Rice Lake area he served on the Board of Trustees for the United Methodist Church of Rice Lake and completed many handyman projects for the church. Jim was a lifelong outdoorsman: hunting, fishing, and camping with his family. He traveled to the West and Canada. Upon retirement he and Jeanette spent the winter months in Texas sightseeing and enjoying friends. Other hobbies included scroll saw woodwork and making items for the women’s holiday bazaar at church.

Jim is survived by 5 children, Linda (Jed) Vitamvas of Santa Fe, NM, Roy Wervey of Roseville, MN, Jerry (Pam) Wervey of Sartell, MN, Paul (Janet dec. 2021) Wervey of Mukwonago, WI,Julie (Jeff) Hanson of Franklinton, NC: 8 grandchildren, Anna (Jess) Fig, John (Gaby) Figlesthaler, Brandon (Amanda) Wervey, Collin (Chelsea) Wervey, Sylvia Hanson, Evelyn Hanson, Jacob Wervey, Ethan Wervey, 6 great grandchildren, Jack and William Figlesthaler, Winona and Waylon Wervey, Henry and Eleanor Wervey, as well as nieces and nephews. Jim is preceded in death by his wife Jeanette, infant son David, brother Bill Patton, sisters Myrtle (Patton), Helen (Patton) Baley, and daughter-in-law Janet Wervey.

Funeral Services will be held at 2PM Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, with interment in the Highland Memorial Park in New Berlin, WI. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the Funeral Service at Appleyard’s Home for Funerals.
