James R. "Jim" Hubin, 79, of Shell Lake died Friday, May 31, 2019 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire. He was born March 2, 1940 on the home farm in Shell Lake to Walter and Florence (Rounds) Hubin. Jim was raised in Shell Lake and graduated from Shell Lake High School. He entered the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged after 4 years. After his service, he operated a television repair shop for several years. He was married in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Cumberland on May 11, 1974 to Patricia A. Hansen. He took over operation of the family Jersey dairy farm around that time and he continued farming until retirement in 1999.

Jim looked forward to his daily crossword puzzles. He was a lover of historical books, loved to cook until recent years and solved many of the world's problems at the kitchen table with his dear friend, Herb Schrankel. When able, Paul and Marv Schaefer would join the discussion. Jim was also an avid fan of Wisconsin sports including the Brewers, Packers and Badgers.

He is survived by his wife, Pat of Shell Lake; children: Joshua Hubin of Cameron and Aaron (Sara) Hubin of Shell Lake; siblings: Peter (Betty) Hubin of Spooner and Dan Hubin of Shell Lake; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: David and Paul; sister-in-law, Lynn Hubin.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, June 7, 2019 at Shell Lake United Methodist Church with Pastor Steve Miller officiating. Burial will be in Shell Lake Cemetery. Pallbearers are Chris Hansen, Paul Hansen, Todd Schrankel, Chad Schrankel, Patrick Severson and Peter Schrankel. Military Honors will be accorded by the Shell Lake Honor Guard and the Wisconsin Military Honors Team. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday at the Skinner Funeral Home in Shell Lake and for 1 hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
