In Memory of James G. Humphrey


February 11, 1939 - January 5, 2024

James Humphrey passed away at age 84 on January 5, 2024 at the Amery Hospital in Amery, WI.

Jim was born in a house in Englevale, ND on February 11, 1939. He was the oldest of 5 siblings born to Orville and Gladys (Dahl) Humphrey. He graduated high school in the nearby town of Verona, ND. Jim started his career in law enforcement, becoming a police officer in Watford City, ND, and then with the ND Truck Regulatory Division, which ultimately became part of the ND Highway Patrol. He then attended college at Valley City State University in Valley City, ND. Jim married Rose Senn on June 6, 1963, at the St. James Basilica in Jamestown, ND. He worked for General Motors for 25 years in Fargo ND, Wadena MN, and Bismarck ND. Jim retired early in 1993, and in 1995, he and Rose began to spend their winters in Apache Junction, AZ. Several years after Rose's death in 2009, Jim met his special friend Carol Van Amber. Jim and Carol continued to spend their time between Apache Junction, AZ and Carol's home in Amery, WI until 2021. Since then, they have resided full time in Amery. Jim enjoyed grouse and deer hunting and fishing. In retirement, he enjoyed shooting pool, playing cards, and dancing to old time music.

Jim is survived by his son, Todd (Karen) in Bismarck, ND; sisters, Gloria (Jack) Reichard in Cape Coral, FL and Marian Stackhouse in Frankenmuth, MI; identical twin grandchildren, Brittney & Briana in Minneapolis, MN; his special friend Carol Van Amber in Amery, WI; and his nephews and nieces.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Rose; his parents; his brother, Jerry and his wife Kay; his brother, Tom; and his brother-in-lawb Amos Stackhouse.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Lake Wapogasset Lutheran Bible Camp in Amery, WI.

We wish to extend our sincere thanks to the medical staff at the Amery Hospital for their compassion and care during the last days of Jim's life.

Visitation will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at the Williamson-White Funeral Home in Amery, WI. The funeral will follow the visitation at 11:00 am, also at the Williamson-White Funeral Home. Burial will be at a later date in Lisbon, ND.
