In Memory of James Colvard
James “Jack” Colvard, 75 of Chetek passed away at home on Sunday, July 7, 2019. He was born November 20, 1943 in Chicago, the son of Iona (Matsen) and Jimmy Colvard. He attended Chetek High School and received a bachelor’s degree in Geography at UW-River Falls in 1984. He served in the United States Air Force from June 1961 to May 1965, then in the United States Naval Reserves in the early 1970’s.
Jack married Darla Jean Olson in South Dakota in 1973. Together they raised 4 children in Roberts, Wisconsin. They moved to Chetek in 1978 where they owned and operated a dairy farm for 13 years. Jack retired as an Emergency Management Coordinator from St. Croix County after 20 years of service. Jack belonged to the Howard-Campbell-Ganske American Legion Post #179, AM Vets Post #25, Military Honor Guard for many years in Chetek, and was heavily involved with the design and construction of The Chetek Area Veterans Memorial, Inc.
Jack is survived by his wife, Darla, children, Cary Hernandez, Joleen (Chris) Clark, Jim (Jayna) Colvard, Jessica (Doug) Cleavenger, grandchildren, Jaymz Colvard, Faith Donaldson, Ben & Sam Clark and Marina Cleavenger. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The memorial service will be held at the Community Center in Chetek, Saturday, August 10 at 11:00 A.M. Inurnment will take place at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, Wisconsin, June 2020.
