In Memory of Howard Snow


May 29, 1927 - October 1, 2021

Howard Snow, age 94, a resident of Spooner, died on Friday, October 1, 2021, in Madison, Wisconsin.

Howard was born on May 29, 1927, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to parents Howard “Melvin” and Violet (Stalker) Snow.

After high school, he served in the US Navy at the end of WWII from 1945 until discharged in 1946. He then attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering and the University of Wisconsin- Madison. Howard was united in marriage to Marjorie Andersen on June 24, 1950, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Howard then began a career as a fisheries biologist with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources in Spooner from 1958 until his retirement in 1992. Howard was affiliated with the Spooner Wesleyan Church and the Spooner Baptist Church, American Fisheries Society – Wisconsin Chapter, and The Gideons International – Rice Lake Chapter. He was a choir director and enjoyed singing solos and participating in a quartet. Howard loved outdoor activities, including golf, canoeing, boating, camping, and enjoying his “million-dollar view” at the lake. He also enjoyed social activities including ping pong, Rook and playing practical jokes on family and friends.

Howard is survived by his children: David Snow and Donna (Craig) Halsey; 3 grandchildren: Brady Snow, Keegan (Stefani) Snow, and Tierney Snow; 3 great-great-grandchildren:  Harlow, Finley, and Cooper Snow; and 4 nephews.

Howard is preceded in death by his wife, parents, and one brother, Vernon.

Funeral services for Howard Snow will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at the Spooner Wesleyan Church with Pastor Ron Gormong as officiant.  Music will be provided by Phyllis Woebke, organist, and soloists Karen Gormong and Brady Snow. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday, from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m. A private interment with Military Honors will be held at a later date at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery near Spooner. Pallbearers (including honorary) will be: Jonathan Snow, Brady Snow, Keegan Snow, Tierney Snow, Stefani Snow, Charles Swanson, Phil Lindeman, and Lee Peterson.
