In Memory of Howard J. Burks
Howard Joseph Burks, 93, of Shell Lake passed away Sunday, May 1, 2022.
He was born in Milwaukee, WI to Howard and Elizabeth (Yenter) Burks on September 10, 1929.
As a child, Howard spent his summers at the Sandy Beach Resort, owned by his grandfather, on Shell Lake and fell in love with the area. After Korean Conflict era Navy service, he started his lifelong career as a draftsman. After retirement, he and his family moved to Shell Lake where he and his wife, Violet, built their home. He also designed and built a 15 ft sailboat. He was known for designing and building model airplanes, boats, and steam engines as well as his oil paintings.
Howard is survived by his daughter: Darlene (Steven) Josul; three grandsons: John, William, and Peter Josul; many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Howard and Elizabeth Burks; wife: Violet; and sister: Marion Seavers.
A private funeral service for family members will be held in the near future with Pastor Brent Berkesch officiating.
Skinner Funeral Home of Shell Lake is serving the family.
