Henry James Barney Age 80, of Madison, WI, formerly of Rice Lake, WI, died Tuesday, April 8, 2025 in Rice Lake.

He was born on January 19, 1945 in Chippewa Falls, WI to Alfred and Agnes (Barquist) Barney. Henry graduated from Rice Lake High School in 1963 and then he graduated from Barron County Teachers College and UW Superior with a teaching degree. He was a 5th grade teacher for many years at Schenk Elementary in Madison, WI retiring in 2002. Henry also did some substitute teaching after his retirement. The children loved having him as a teacher and a friend. Henry spent over 3 decades traveling every summer with the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps working the souvenir booths and serving meals. He was very musically inclined and could pick up any instrument and play it. He enjoyed camping, teaching science and watching sci-fi movies.

He is survived by his brother, Jack; 3 nephews, John (Kim) Barney, Dan (Lynn) Barney and Doug (Heather) Barney; a niece, Patty (Ray) Murray; many great nephews and great nieces; and a sister-in-law, Sandy Roux.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Agnes Barney; a brother, Larry Barney; a sister-in-law, Finnette Barney; and 2 nephews, Jeff Barney and Andy Barney. A private family graveside service will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery in Rice Lake.
