In Memory of Helen Johnson

June 28, 1929 - September 2, 2020

Helen Lois Johnson, 91, of Cumberland passed away peacefully on September 2, 2020. She was surrounded by her family at her home that her husband, Richard, built for her 70 years ago. She was born June 28, 1929, in Bruce, WI to Frank and Mary (Alvey) Nelson.

Helen graduated from Bruce High School in 1947. She attended cosmetology school after high school. Upon graduating, she began her career as a hairdresser in Cumberland, where she met the love of her life. Helen was united in marriage to Richard B. Johnson on October 28, 1950, at Bruce Federated Church in Bruce, WI. They started a life together in Cumberland where they raised their four children, who were her greatest joy.

Family was a very important part of Helen's life, as was church, her faith and friends. Helen enjoyed playing cards, golfing, coffee time with friends, and hosting family gatherings. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, Women's Club, and Cumberland Hospital Auxiliary. She was also an avid Packers and Brewers fan.

Helen will remain in the hearts of her loving husband of 69 years, Richard; son, Tom (Jeri) Johnson of Wausau; three daughters: Debbie (Harvey) Ott of Rice Lake, Mary Miller of Cumberland, and Julie Johnson or Stratford; seven grandchildren: Sara (Brian), Matthew (Jennifer), Molly, Michael, Ryan (Britta), Kevin (Sarah), and Erin; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and other dear relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mary; two brothers: Wilbur and Jerry; and six sisters: Eleanor, Arlene, Marilyn, twin-sister Ellen, Joan, and Mary Lou.

Due to the ongoing health crisis, a private family funeral service will be held at Cumberland First United Methodist Church with Pastor Mike Brubaker officiating with burial at Lakeside Cemetery in Cumberland.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made out to the First United Methodist Church of Cumberland.

Skinner Funeral Home of Cumberland is serving the family.
