Helen Colbenson, 88, of Lexington, MN, passed away on January 26, 2017.

Helen was born in Ashland, NE on May 5, 1928, to Leo and Ruth Root. She moved with her family to Spooner in 1942. She met her future husband, Keith Colbenson, in Sioux City, IA, and traveled with him while he served in the Air Force. Helen and Keith eventually settled in Lexington, where she lived for over 50 years.

Helen leaves behind family members who love and adore her and will continue to do so. She also made many friends wherever she lived who also became her family. Helen was devoted to all of her family members and all of her family members were devoted to Helen.

She is survived by her brother Hank Root, sister Sandra (Phillip) Johnson, and sister-in-law Cathy Root, as well as nieces and nephews Linda, Gary, Emily, Harold, Jeff, Christy, Steve, Ilene, Sherry, Cindy, Wanda, Randy, Becky, Mike, and Deb, and all of their spouses, children and grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband Keith, her parents, and her siblings Merle Root, Leo Root, Betty Schaefer, and Jack Root.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 4, at 11:00 a.m. at Spooner Funeral Home in Spooner. Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 a.m.  Burial will be at the Spooner Cemetery.
