In Memory of Harvey L. Becker

January 3, 1940 - January 3, 2024

Harvey L. Becker, age 84, of Turtle Lake, WI passed on January 3, 2024 at his home following a battle with cancer. Harvey was born on January 3, 1940 in Cumberland, WI to Henry and Alvina Becker. Harvey grew up in Almena, WI and started working on the family farm at a very young age. He attended Midway Grade School and graduated from Turtle Lake High School. At age 17, he began his trucking career by driving milk trucks for his dad. In those days, it involved lifting 100-pound milk cans on each arm. Harvey eventually stopped hauling milk and began hauling lumber, gravel, coal and salt, which involved occasional out-of-state trips. In 1961, Harvey; his brothers, Harold and Harland; started Becker's Trucking in Turtle Lake, and later in 1992 started Busy B's with Harland and Stretch Broker. Harvey and Beverly moved to Fairbanks, Alaska when he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served there from 1963 - 1965. In 1990, he took over management of the Becker's Trucking and Busy B's. In 1999, Harvey retired with nearly 40 years at Becker's Trucking.

On June 16, 1962, Harvey married his high school sweetheart, Beverly Fredrick. They were blessed with 4 children, 7 grandchildren and cherished their time with family. Harvey and Bev enjoyed traveling; some of their favorite trips were to Austria, Germany, Hawaii, Australia, Costa Rica, and travels throughout the United States and Canada.

Harvey enjoyed many hobbies, including fishing locally and in Canada and hunting and ski trips to Colorado in his earlier years. He also enjoyed bowling and golf, along with card games, chess, cribbage and other games with family and friends. Harvey was also very active in the community serving on various boards, including the Turtle Lake Bank Board, the Turtle Lake Food Pantry Board and the Lakeview Cemetery Board.

He was confirmed at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Almena, WI and a longtime member of Parkview Methodist church in Turtle Lake, WI. Harvey enjoyed serving in many different capacities within the church. After retirement, he took a lead role in coordinating mission trips to Texas and Mexico for 20 years, which included recruiting and training volunteers, driving the bus to Texas, and building homes, churches and playgrounds in Mexico. He dedicated summers to organizing multiple fundraising events to raise money for the mission trips each year. As an active member of The Gideons International, Harvey spoke at many churches in our local area. Harvey also enjoyed driving school bus part time for school sports, as well as for YWAM in Weyerhaeuser to local and Colorado events.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Alvina Becker; brothers, Henry Jr., Howard (Joyce) Becker, and Harold (Gloria) Becker; brother-in-laws, John (Yvonne) Fredrick, Jerry Fredrick and Tom Murphy; sister-in-laws, Leatrice Fredrick, Dorothy Fredrick, and Donna Becker.
