Harold W. Dau was born October 29, 1932 in Frederic, WI to Clarence and Agnes Dau. He attended Shady Oak, Half Moon and Milltown Grade Schools and graduated from Milltown High School in 1950. Shortly after graduation he started cutting pulp wood with a friend who later became his brother-in-law. 

He was drafted into the U.S. Army on December 13, 1952 and took his basic training in Fort Riley, Kansas. They he took advanced training at Fort Lewis, Washington as a Field Wireman. Then he was transferred to Japan where he went to CBR school. Then on to Korea where he was with a 155mm Howitzer Artillery Battery the rest of his tour of duty. He was separated from active duty on November 1, 1954. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Ribbon, and was honorably discharged.

After returning from Korea, he started working at Trestven Auto in Milltown which later became Martini Motors where he specialized in transmission repair, and later worked for C.J. Auto in Milltown where he retired. 

May of 1958 he married Ellah Morrison in Pine City, MN. They had no children together. 

He loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and made many trips to Canada fishing and moose hunting, and to Montana and Colorado Elk hunting with his nephew, Mike. He was also a great cook and gardener. 

He is survived by his sister, Mary of Arbor Vitae, WI and brother, Bruce of Frederic. His wishes were to have no funeral. He died April 28, 2020 at Frederic Nursing and Rehab.
