In Memory of H. Scott Kirby
The Very Reverend Father H. Scott Kirby Age 85, of Altoona, WI, died Monday, January 22, 2024 at his home.
He was born on May 6, 1938 in Richmond, Virginia to William and Lucille (Patterson) Kirby.
Scott received his education from BA, University of Richmond, VA in 1960 and then his Masters of Divinity, General Theological Seminary in New York, NY in 1963 and was Ordained Priest in 1963. Father Scott was married to Heather Roberts on June 22, 1963 in Englewood, NJ. He served as Canon at Christ Church Cathedral in Salina, Kansas; Priest in Charge at Grace Episopal Church in Rice Lake; Dean of Christ Church Cathedral in Eau Claire, WI; Supply Priest in Chippewa Falls, Historical Bayfield, LaCrosse, and Rice Lake; Resident Director, Director of Development, St. Francis Academy; Rector, Church of St. John on the Mountain in Bernardsville, NJ; Rector, Church of St. John the Baptist in Dunkirk, NY; Curate, Church of the Advent of Kenmore, NY; Assistant to Rector, Cathedral of St. Luke and St. Paul in Charleston, SC. Father Scott was also the Chaplain of the Eau Claire Police Department; Civil Air Patrol; Vice President of House of Deputies, 77th General Convention; Development Consultant of St. Francis Academy in Salina; Chairman of Long Range Planning Diocese of Eau Claire; Member Committee of Elect Presiding Bishop; Council of Advice to the President House of Deputies; Member Title of IV Committee; Chair Committee of the State of the Church; Dean of Chippewa Valley; Executive Council of Visitation Committee; Board of Directors of the Episcopal Relief and Development; Chaplain of the Mississippi Seamen’s Church Institute; Board of the Business Improvement District; and Captain of the Civil Air Patrol. He was a contributor of various articles and magazines; awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award of the General Theological Seminary; Bishop’s Service Award from the Diocese of Western Kansas; Anglican Society Marquis Who’s Who Honors; Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award and Professionals. Father Scott was very thankful of the day he married his wife and very grateful of his ordination to the priesthood in the Episcopal Church since 1963 and the success he has had in the ministry, which was in large part due to the education he received at the General Theological Seminary.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl Kirby-Stokes and Mike Stokes; three grandchildren, Jessica, Brandon and Austin; and three great grandchildren, Emalyn, Ethan, and Emmett.
He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Heather Kirby; beloved son, Robert Kirby; and his loving parents, William and Lucille Kirby.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Noon, Saturday, February 3, 2024 at Christ Church Cathedral, 510 S. Farwell St. Eau Claire, WI 54701.
Visitation will be held from 10AM-Noon at the church prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Croix Hospice - Eau Claire or Christ Church Cathedral in Eau Claire.
