In Memory of Gregory Rogers


April 24, 1968 - January 21, 2019

Gregory Norman Rogers, age 50, of Austin, TX died suddenly on January 21, 2019.

Greg was born on April 24, 1968 to Clifford and Carna Rogers of Hillsdale, WI. He grew up in Hillsdale, WI and attended school in Barron graduating in May of 1986.  After graduation Greg, enlisted in the Army from June of 1986 to August 1986 doing his basic training at Ft. Leonardwood.  He then enlisted in the Navy and served from April 1987 to May of 1995.  His last active assignment was on a nuclear submarine as a Submarine Nuclear Propulsion Plant Supervisor.  During his service Greg received the National defense service medal, first good conduct award and sea service deployment ribbon.  His military education included nuclear power school, nuclear power plant training and submarine inspector school.

After leaving the service, Greg attend UW – Madison majoring in Computer Engineering.  He then worked for a time after college at Cray Research in Chippewa Falls, WI before moving to Austin, TX. While in Austin he worked for AMD (computer processor company), a division of Logitech, Cisco and finally Canon NanoTechnologies as a Software Engineer.

His hobbies included shortwave radio enthusiast, traveling throughout the United States and abroad, camping on the beach, and fishing, but his main love he inherited from his father, wood working.  He enjoyed being by himself and tended to be a recluse, but as siblings we enjoyed our weekend text group sessions, which he actively participated in and shared many stories, humor and pictures.  He is our baby brother, the epitome of our father and will be forever missed.  

Greg is survived by his brother, Mike (Mary) of Cumberland; sisters, Linda (Jerry) Richter of Frederic; Kathy (Greg) Hewitt of Shell Lake; Wendy (Hal) Minor of Dallas; Mary (Dean) West of Turtle Lake; Sheri (Ron) Clark of Barron; and Patti (John) Krahenbuhl of Tomah; along with many nieces and nephews.  He is also survived by his 2 (4 legged) best friends, Emma and Cassie.

Greg was proceeded in death by his parents, Clifford (Bud) and Carna Rogers.

Funeral services for Greg Rogers will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at First Baptist Church in Barron with Pastor Darrel Robinson officiating.  Visitation will be from 10:00 until 11:00 Saturday morning at the church before the service.

Arrangements are being handled by Rausch and Steel Funeral Home, Barron.
