Victor Gordon Greener 96, passed away April 26th at Shell Lake Healthcare. He was born August 12, 1921 at Cumberland WI, to Earl and Gertrude (Kelley) Greener. He attended Silver Lake Elementary School, graduated from Cumberland High School in 1939 and from Agriculture Short Course, University of Wisconsin, Madison.

He is survived by a son, Craig (Carolyn) Greener-Cumberland and a daughter, Sandra (Glenn) Kolb-Cumberland; foster son, Gary (Sue) Larson-Rice Lake; five grandchildren: Jill (Kevin) Knoke-Hudson, Jana (Jacob) Heinzelman-Waukesha, Jessica (Matt) Sattler-Canyon TX, Melissa (Todd Frisch) Kolb-River Falls, and Kyrsten (Kent) Hughes-Amery; two foster grandchildren: Robert (Sarah) Larson-Superior and Michael (Erin) Larson-Dresser; eleven great-grandchildren; his sister, Erlene Dragseth-Fall Creek, and special neighbors and friends Gene and Joan Hedke and Kiersten Kopp. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Vada; infant granddaughter, Allie Jo Heinzelman; two brothers: Kyle Greener and Ronald Greener; two sisters: Doris Boeson, Ferol Organ, and dear friend Twylla Ryland.

Gordon grew up on his parent’s farm on the east side of Silver Lake. He married Vada Hanson on May 2, 1942. He served in Italy and Africa during the Second World War and was honorably discharged as a Second Lieutenant. Gordon and Vada operated a dairy farm west of Cumberland on Cty "G" from 1949-1979. During those years he served on the joint Lincoln, Woodside and Spirit Lake school board. Gordon served as Chairman of the Town of Crystal Lake for several years. After retiring he and Vada moved to Cumberland. He served on the Barron County Board of Supervisors for many years and he served a term as Mayor of Cumberland. He was a 70 year member and past commander of Anderson-Thompson American Legion Post 98 and a member of First Lutheran Church. He and Vada were active in 4-H as well as many church and community activities. Service and giving back were a great part of Gordon’s life and he instilled those values in his children. His family was his pride and his faith his foundation.

A celebration of life will be held at First Lutheran Church in Cumberland on Tuesday, May 1st at 11:00 AM with burial and full military honors to follow at Lakeside Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
