In Memory of Gloria D. Uggla

August 24, 1937 - December 28, 2024

Gloria Diane Uggla, born August 24, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2024, in Chetek, Wisconsin.

Gloria's remarkable life began when she was introduced to show business at eight. She was selected from over a thousand children and became part of the "Red Feather Kids" alongside Roy Rogers and Dale Evans on WGN Chicago. Her talent and charm paved the way for unforgettable experiences when her family relocated to Culver City, California. While working as an elevator operator at the iconic Beverly Wilshire Hotel, Gloria had encounters that most could only dream of. She famously shared a kiss with Elvis Presley between floors and met Hollywood luminaries such as Marilyn Monroe, Clint Eastwood, and later with John F. Kennedy in addition to other legendary MGM head figures. Despite opportunities and offers to enter Hollywood herself, Gloria chose to live a quieter life outside the spotlight.

Her artistry, talent, and love of bringing care of others shined brightly through her original Edgar Bergen puppets, which she used to entertain live audiences at Air Force and Army bases around the southwest. Gloria’s compassion extended to visiting returning veterans at VFW hospitals across Los Angeles, bringing joy and hope to those who had served their country. Gloria was known for her humanitarian efforts, dedicating her life to advocating for animals and supporting veteran affairs. Her love for entertaining and giving back to her community defined her as an actress, singer, humanitarian, and patriot. Yet, she cherished her roles as a beloved daughter, friend, mother, and mentor above all. Gloria spent her life traveling, entertaining, and advocating for causes close to her heart before settling into family life in her later years. She was deeply loved by her family and friends, whose lives she enriched with her love, passion, wisdom, and kindness.

Gloria is survived by her son, Victor Martinez of Las Vegas, NV; daughter-in-law, Chantelle Martinez of Duluth, Minnesota; and grandchildren Mateo, Thomas, and Robert. She also is survived by her nephews, Ryan Uggla and Tyler Uggla of California, her niece, Dorothea "Dottie" Macdougall of Colorado, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Uggla of Stockholm, Sweden, and Delores Uggla (born Olson of Redwood Falls, Minnesota); her brother, Donald Uggla of Culver City; and her niece, Theresa "Terry" Uggla of California.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date to honor Gloria's extraordinary life and legacy. Her light, love, and laughter will be dearly missed but will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew her.
