In Memory of Glenn R. Ritchie

May 1, 1928 - October 15, 2022

Glenn Robert Ritchie, 94, of Cumberland passed away October 15, 2022, at Cumberland Care and Rehab with his beloved son holding his hand.

He was born May 1, 1928, in Cumberland, WI to Patrick and Muriel (Nelson) Ritchie.

Glenn married his friend and partner of nearly-three years, Madie Nedvidek, in Pine City, MN on April 23, 1948.

Glenn attended Cumberland High School, participating in Football & Basketball, and graduated in 1947. He was the fourth employee hired by 3M when the plant door opened in 1950. He retired as the 3M Maintenance supervisor in 1986. His work ethic and eagerness to provide for his family was one of his greatest strengths. He purchased excavating equipment, creating the sewer systems for many homes on Beaver Dam Lake as well as snowplowing for the local business establishments during the winter months. Glenn and Madie also operated a Montgomery Ward Catalog store in Cumberland. Glenn was instrumental in developing & riding with the Crazy 8 snowmobiling group. He was an avid photographer, developed photos in a dark room in the era of film cameras & passed this hobby on to the next three generations of family. He loved driving jeeps, maintaining his vehicles, and going for a motorcycle ride. Glenn was a craftsman of many fine trailers and building projects as he diligently worked in his garage.

Together Glenn and Madie loved to travel, camp, and gather with friends on the deck. For 29 years they escaped to Texas where they established a winter home and many new friends. He was a gentle soul and will be remembered for his love of family, sly smile, and keen sense of humor. Glenn will also be remembered for his negotiating and salesmanship skills on the corner of their property.

He is survived by his children: Jane (Matt) Stone, Jeri (Thomas) Johnson, Jay (Ruby) Ritchie; grandchildren, Sara (Brian) Neuser, Matthew (Jennifer) Johnson, Amber Ritchie, Cosima Walker, Patrick (Kari) Ritchie; great-grandchildren, Brennan and Connor Neuser, Cullen Delaney and Eila Jane Johnson; multiples nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Patrick and Muriel Ritchie; his wife, Madie; and siblings, Virgil, Mabel, Sylvia, Edith, Muriel, and Gloria.

Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at Augustana Lutheran Church with Pastor Shane Anderson officiating. There will be a one hour visitation prior to the service to share a story about Glenn with the family.

Honorary Pallbearers will be his Grandsons and Great Grandsons: Matthew Johnson, Cosima Walker, Patrick Ritchie, Brennan Neuser, Connor Neuser and Cullen Johnson.

The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff of Cumberland Healthcare, Dr. Lingen, Care & Rehab, and St. Croix Hospice, all of whom delivered expert care with love, kindness, and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Endeavors Adult Day Center or St. Croix Hospice.
