In Memory of Glen Crosby

Glen Thomas Crosby passed on to his heavenly home on March 7, 2019. Glen was a proud farmer who owned and operated the family dairy farm west of Shell Lake. The farm was purchased by his father when Glen was a small boy and is now being operated by the fourth generation of Crosbys, and moving into the fifth generation.

Glen was a man of many talents. He was a self taught mechanic and a natural musician. He could always be heard singing his favorite songs as he worked in his garage on disabled cars or tractors. He learned to play the harmonica and the accordion, and played for dances on Saturday nights at Tips Tavern in Shell Lake when he was just a kid. He loved to dance and it was at a dance he met the love of his life, Lorraine Engebretson. They were married on Nov 11, 1945. They raised six children in a home filled with love, laughter and fun. In this home there was always room for one more place at the table or time for coffee with a friend. Grandkids always brought a smile to his face, a chuckle to his heart, and he never missed the opportunity to tease them!

If you spent a little time with Glen you would find a man who had an endless sense of humor. That might include telling a good joke, making a wise crack, or playing a prank on some unsuspecting person. His sense of humor carried him over hills and through the valleys of life. He lived for deer hunting season and loved nothing better than sharing his deer hunting stories. He also loved to tell stories of the olden days; anything from horse & buggy and model T Ford‘s to mischievous adventures with siblings and friends.
Glen is loved and will be remembered for his witty sense of humor, his sense of fun and adventure, and his amusing stories. He always said there was nothing that scared him more than a person with no sense of humor. In his words he would advise us as we say our good byes, “Remember, Keep Smiling!”

He is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Lorraine; 2, sons: Garry (Beth) Crosby, and Glen "Gene" (Donna) Crosby; 3 daughters: Donna (Jerry) Melin, JoAnn (Tim) Bauer, and Kathleen (Mike) Spears; daughter-in-law, Kim Crosby; 19 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and Carl's family. He was preceded in death by his son, Darrel; grandsons: Kenneth Melin, and David Bauer; one who was like a son, Carl Hopke; 3 sisters, June Hamann, Ethel Hopke, and Beatrice Lee; and brother, Herman Crosby.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Monday,March 18, 2019, at Shell Lake Full Gospel with Pastor Dan Slater officiating. A private family visitation will begin at 10 AM; the public visitation will begin at 11 AM. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Hertel in the spring.
