Gladys Halvorson, age 101, passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at Marshfield Medical Center, Rice Lake.

She was born in Canton, WI to John and Melvina (Crotteau) Huiras on January 17, 1922 at home.

She grew up on the Family Farm. She received her education at the Canton school and graduated from the 8th grade in 1936, and then completed 2 years high school there.

She married Merlin Halvorson October 10, 1950 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rice Lake. They spent their entire life on the family farm. They had on son, Bill. She worked many years for the Wisconsin Telephone Co. as an operator. She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Halvorson Ladies Aid, and the Mikana Card Club. She loved quilting, sewing, upholstering and gardening.

She is survived by her son, Bill (Sharon) of Stacy, MN; granddaughter, Anna (Kristoffer) Halvorson; 2 stepsons, Josh and Aaron Lappe; 3 great-granddaughters, Taryn, Megan and Phoenix; 1 great-grandson, Bill; one brother, Bill Huiras of Barron; sister-in-law, Judy Huiras of Woodbury, MN; 1 special niece, Rose Maxon of Cumberland, and 19 special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Merlin Halvorson; her parents; a sister, Minnie Huiras; brothers, Paul, Roy and Elmer Huiras; sister in laws, Theresa, Gail, Jeanette and Ruth Huiras; 3 nephews, Joseph, Gregory and Joseph Huiras.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Monday, April 17, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rice Lake. Visitation 1 1/2 hours prior.

Pallbearers are Ed Huiras, Annie Huiras, Pat Huiras, Marc Huiras, Don Halvorson and Dave Bandli.

Interment Pioneer Rest Cemetery.
