In Memory of Gerald D. Olson
September 15, 1926 - May 23, 2018
Gerald Davis Olson, age 91, of Hayward, formerly of Ojibwa, passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Essentia St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth, MN. He was born September 15, 1926 in Woodville, WI, the son of Peter Norman and Andrea Marie (Blomquist) Olson.
Gerald proudly represented his country in the United States Army serving in the Philippines during WWII. He worked as a telegrapher for the Chicago and North Western Railroad for 39 years. Upon retirement, Gerald enjoyed over 30 years in the northwoods of Wisconsin.
Gerald was a true pool shark and a man many have aspired to beat. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing and listening to steel guitars.
He is survived by his children, Shelley (Rick) Thoemke of Center City, MN, Harold Olson of Sarona, WI, Daniel Olson of Sarona, WI, Jerrilynn (Todd) Vikre of Gurnee, IL, Jennifer (Ted) Longinow of Woodbury, MN, Jill Goodreau of Cloquet, MN and Jamie (Trent) Parker of Antioch, IL; his grandchildren, Jimmie, Andrea, Danielle, Michael, Andrew, Chelsea, Calista, Dalton, Dylan, Courtney, Dakotah, Charlotte, Dominic and Jovie; and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and dear friends.
In addition to his parents, Gerald is preceded in death by his two sons, Peter and Kenny Olson; and his siblings, Dora, Albert, Arthur, Nettie, Hank and Marcie.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Spooner Funeral Home, 306 Rusk Street in Spooner, where visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of the service. Interment with full military honors will follow at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner.
