In Memory of Georgene M. George


November 12, 1926 - August 6, 2023

Georgene Mary (Kemp) George was born on November 12, 1926 to Francis and Hazel (Bolster) Kemp in Washburn, Iowa and died on Sunday, August 6, 2023 in Rice Lake, surrounded by family.

She was married to Eugene George on June 12, 1948 in Birchwood WI. They lived and farmed in the Mikana area for over sixty years, until recently moving to Rice Lake. In June of 2023, they celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary. She will be remembered as a loving wife and mother, and partner on the family farm, as well as for her beautiful flower gardens. For several years, she and Eugene traveled south in the winter. She was a devoted member of St. John's Catholic Church in Birchwood and was extremely proud and humbled to receive the Pax Christie Award from the Superior Diocese. A highlight of her religious life was making a pilgrimage to Lourdes, France. She had a strong sense of family and deeply loved her husband, children and their spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Eugene George; six children, Beverly (Lawrence) George, Linda Borofka, Roberta (Donald) Laine, Mary (James) Rampe, Kenneth (Becki) George, Barbara (Jeffrey) Sheldon; 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Russell Kemp, Juanita (Grady) White, Catherine Benoy, Richard (Lynn) Kemp; brother-in-law John (Joan) George; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers William Kemp and Raphael Kemp, brother-in-law, Arthur George and son-in-law, Brian Borofka.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John's Catholic Church in Birchwood at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, Father Adam Laski officiating, with interment in the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery in Spooner. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Church. Appleyard's Home for Funerals in Rice Lake is assisting the family with arrangements.
