In Memory of George Wilbert Nelsen


February 22, 1931 - December 7, 2018

George Wilbert Nelsen Age 87, of Rice Lake, WI died Friday, December 7, 2018 at the Heritage Lakeside in Rice Lake.

He was born on February 22, 1931 in Lakeland, Florida to Alfred and Ellen Nelsen. George attended Golden Valley School in Rice Lake and was married to Mary Louise Anderson on June 16, 1956. They made their home on the family farm in the Township of Stanfold until 1969. He then attended Rice Lake Vocational School and received his GED and also received a certificate in welding and in first aid.

George became a licensed journeyman plumber and also was licensed in soil testing. In 1970 he started working for Mally’s Plumbing in Rice Lake and retired at the age of 65 and then became an independent plumber until the age of 80. George was very active at the Stanfold Lutheran Church, was a state champion in dart ball and enjoyed fishing and hunting.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Steve Knoop of Spooner; a grandson, Daniel Knoop; a nephew and 2 nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise Nelsen; his parents, Alfred and Ellen Nelsen; 3 brothers, Harvey, Roy and Paul; and a sister, Anna. Funeral Services will be held at 11AM Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at the Stanfold Lutheran Church in Rice Lake, with interment in the Stanfold Cemetery. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the Funeral Service at the Church.

Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Stanfold Lutheran Church or to Smile Train would be appreciated.
