George L. Nelson Sr., age 84, of Springbrook, WI passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at his home.

George Leroy Nelson was born November 2, 1936 in Hayward, WI, the son of Olger and Edna (Phernetton) Nelson. He attended school in Minong. After high school George enlisted in the U.S. Army and served for 13 years, then served for seven years in the U.S. Air Force. He was in the military for both the Vietnam War and Korean Conflict, retiring after 20 years of military service. After his service George worked various occupations as a truck driver, logger, landscaper and salesman. He retired in 2004. George was united in marriage to Billie Jo Wright on July 10, 1979 in Shell Lake. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He is survived by his wife Billie Jo Nelson; sons George (Mary) Nelson Jr., Michael Robertson & Christopher Wright; daughters Dana (Mark) Sheldon & Melissa (Pete) Kurtz; 25 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren & one great great grandchild; brothers Richard Phernetton, Alfred Nelson, John Nelson, Olger Nelson & Timothy Nelson; sisters Nina Nelson, Martha Panyon & Juanita Mortimer; many nephews, nieces & cousins.

George was preceded in death by his parents Olger Nelson and Edna Hodges; daughters Melinda Krueger & Beverly Colegrove; and sister Rita Nelson.

Private family services will be held.
