In Memory of George Burford


December 8, 1927 - August 14, 2019

George “Stub” Burford, of Webster, passed away peacefully at Countryside Acres on August 14th at the age of 91.

Stub was born on December 8, 1927, to parents, Ray Burford and Lena (Johnson). After graduating from Webster High School, he joined the Army and served until his discharge in July of 1947.

Stub married Carmen Louden on July 3, 1948 and they enjoyed 65 wonderful years together.

Stub attended Dunwoody Technical School to become a refrigeration and air-conditioning technician. He started a refrigeration business in Webster and also worked a second job as a bookkeeper for the Webster Co-op. He later became the Manager of the Co-op and served in that role until his retirement.

Stub served as the Mayor of Webster for many years, bringing paved streets and water and sewer to the village. He was an active member of the Lions Club and an original member of the Wild River Boys. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, gardening, and was a legendary storyteller (some of them true).

Stub was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carmen; siblings: Robert, James, Thomas, John, Elise East and Gretchen Caraway.

Stub is survived by his brother, Terrence; children, Russ (Barbara) and Geri Burford – Andrews; grandchildren, Kevin and Jason Burford.

Visitation will be held on Saturday August 24, 2019, from 10:00am – 11:00am at Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home in Webster. Visitation will be followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00am. Private interment will be held at a later date.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances be made to Countryside Acres, 5788 County Road C, Webster, WI. 54893.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home in Webster.
