Gene Richard Anderson, age 88, formerly of Springbrook, passed away on Monday, February 27, 2017 at Indianhead Medical Center in Shell Lake, WI. He was born April 23, 1928 in Crystal Township, WI, the son of Jens and Josephine (Nordbloom) Anderson.  He was united in marriage to Norma Louise Holt on July 20, 1949 in the Spooner Methodist Church. 

Gene graduated from Spooner High School where he played quarterback for the football team and also pitched and played catcher for the baseball team. He worked for the Washburn County Highway Department, serving as the Commissioner towards the end of his career.  Gene was an entrepreneur who developed and built ten homes along Ge No Lane near Springbrook.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed many good adventures with family and friends.  Gene was a Boy Scout leader and a family man and greatly enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s sporting events.

Gene is survived by his three children, Richard (Barb) Anderson of Spooner, WI, David (Laura) Anderson of Appleton, WI, and Laura (Keith) Stone of Chesapeake, VA; eight grandchildren, Nathan (Val) Anderson of Cumberland, WI, Jay (Shannon) Anderson of Shell Lake, WI Richelle (Jeff) Hanson of Barronette, WI, Lauren (Bjarni) Magnusson of Bentonville, AR, Bryan (Carly) Pine of Virginia Beach, VA, Alec (Amanda) Pine of Virginia Beach, VA, Caitlyn (Anthony) Idaspe of Ft. Myers, FL, and Ben (Aly) Anderson of Chicago, IL; seven great-grandchildren Emmalee Statz of Shell Lake, Luke Anderson of Cumberland, Emma Anderson of Cumberland, Bailee Hanson of Barronette, Payton Anderson of Shell Lake, Makenna Anderson of Shell Lake, Cade Hanson of Barronette and Nora Anderson of Chicago, IL; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

In addition to his parents, Gene is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Norma; his daughter, Mary; his sisters, Amanda Miles, Sylvia Furchtenicht and Rosella McKee; and his brothers, Maurice, Milton, Glenn, Donald “Mick”, Russell and James.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Friday, March 3, 2017 at Spooner Funeral Home, 306 Rusk Street in Spooner.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Spooner United Methodist Church, 312 Elm Street in Spooner with Pastor Jack Starr officiating. Interment will follow in Earl Cemetery.
