In Memory of Gary Marek


December 7, 1944 - November 7, 2023

Gary Marek, of Grantsburg, WI died Tuesday, November 7th surrounded by family at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN.

He was born December 7th, 1944 to George and Carmen Marek of Frederic, WI.

Gary graduated from Grantsburg High School in 1963 where he was a standout pitcher in baseball. He was then drafted in the United States Army in 1965 where he served as a Company Clerk in Vietnam.

Gary was proud of the business he co-owned for over 25 years, G & B Novelty which serviced several areas in and around Grantsburg, WI where he became a familiar face in many bars and restaurants.

Some of Gary’s favorite things included fishing; where he enjoyed taking trips with his son and cousins, hunting, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid Wisconsin sports fan and even once drove an infamous Green Bay Packers pickup truck. You could always find Gary with a cup of black coffee in his hand.

Gary was honored with a Quilt of Valor on Veterans Day of 2022 where he was thanked for his service, sacrifice and valor.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 52 years Judy Marek; his daughter, Sonya (Paul Thompson); his son, Jedediah (Katie); his grandchildren, Tatiana, Kajsa, Forest, Haley, Gary and James.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Carmen; his brother, Myron and his sister, Pamela.

Per his wishes a private service was held for Gary at Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI where he was laid to rest.

Arrangements were entrusted to Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home, Grantsburg.
