In Memory of Frances M. Long

May 12, 1924 - November 18, 2023

Frances Maud Long, age 99, of Rice Lake, WI, formerly of Stone Lake, WI passed away Saturday, November 18, 2023, at her home at Woodstone Senior Living.

Fran was born May 12, 1924, in Chicago, IL the daughter of Daniel and Annie (Hanson) Ormrod. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Leo Long, on October 7, 1943. How do you put 99 years of achievements into context? Wife, mother, grandmother, resourceful homemaker – oh, her pies! Wedding cake designer, master gardener and head school cook. Nurse’s aide, family medic and Little Sand Lake lifeguard. However, probably the one big credit Fran gets that very few people knew about was her time as one of the original Rosie the Riveters during WWII. Fran worked at Douglas Aircraft in Des Plaines, IL on property that is now O’Hare Airport. She would talk about her pride and joy, the C54 cargo plane.

She is survived by her children Judy (Ed) Gregory), Sue (Gary) Bartz and Steve (Lisa) Long; daughter-in-law Janet Long; eight grandchildren, many great grandchildren and a bunch of
great great grandchildren.

Fran was preceded in death by her husband Leo; parents; son Robert Long; great granddaughter Breanna; sisters Daisy (Art) Johnson and Olive (Bert) Sholin.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Stone Lake Wesleyan Church. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Stone Lake. Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church.

The family would like to thank everyone at Woodstone Senior Living for the loving care they provided Fran for the last four years.
