In Memory of Floyd Nelson


December 5, 1951 - March 23, 2024

Floyd Nelson, age 72, a long-time resident of Minong, died unexpectedly on Saturday, March 23, 2024.

Floyd was born on December 5, 1951, at the family home in the Town of Greenfield, just north of Tomah, Wisconsin to parents Harley and Bertha (Johnson) Nelson. When he was young, the family moved to the Minong area where he attended and graduated from Northwood High School in 1969. After graduation he enlisted in the US Navy and served as an ABE3. His military occupation was working with the catapult systems aboard a United States Naval Aircraft Carrier for 3 1/2 years. He was honorably discharged in 1975, after serving just short of a 4 ½ year enlistment. On October 1, 1977, he was united in marriage to Robin Peterson in Superior, Wisconsin. Floyd worked as a Correctional Officer for the Bureau of Federal Prisons for over 20 years. After his retirement, he loved fishing with his family and spending time with his grandkids.

Floyd is survived by his wife Robin, children: Patrick (Jill) Nelson, Michael Nelson, Jennifer Nelson, 5 grandkids: Collin, Christian, Cassandra, Katelyn, Conner, great granddaughter Brooklyn, brothers and sisters: Delores Hahn, Charlotte Pearson, Peggy Featherly, and Dan Nelson.

Floyd is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers: Lamont, Gene, and Pete Nelson.

A private family graveside service with Military Honors will be held at a later date at the Greenwood Cemetery in Minong.
