In Memory of Floyd G. Friday
Floyd Friday, age 91, of Amery, Wisconsin, passed away on November 23, 2024, at Amery Hospital and Clinic. Floyd was born on May 17, 1933, in Deronda, Wisconsin, to Pearl and Harry Friday. He grew up on a farm, where he learned to drive a tractor at a young age. The family later moved to the City of Amery, where Floyd spent many happy days swimming and boating with friends on the shores of South Twin Lake.
Floyd graduated from Amery High School in 1951, and in 1953, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in the 5th Armored Division at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas, attaining the rank of Corporal before being honorably discharged in May 1955.
On August 22, 1954, Floyd married the love of his life, Marjorie Lee. The couple was blessed with two daughters, Mona and Brenda.
Floyd was a man of many passions. He worked as a truck driver for many years, and enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, ice fishing, and deer hunting with friends Howie and Jack. Floyd was known for his sense of humor, and his practical jokes and tall tales brought laughter to everyone, especially his grandchildren. He loved riding motorcycles with Marge along the North Shore and wintering in Arizona. Floyd was a dedicated Packers fan and never missed a coffee break at the Amery Community Center. He also had an affection for animals, especially his dogs and cats.
Floyd was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend, and his warm heart and vibrant personality will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Marjorie, as well as his parents, Harry and Pearl Friday.
He is survived by his daughters Mona (Ken Sweigart) of Spokane, WA, and Brenda (Bob Janis) of Amery, WI; grandchildren Chad (Victoria) Holmes, Kris (Kelly) Holmes, Ryan (Shalena) Janis, Andrew (Deb) Janis, Danielle (Adam) Bystrom, Garrett (Cassidy) Janis, and Lauren Sweigart; and great-grandchildren Abby, Ellie, Liam, Truman, Nolan, Forest, and Weston.
A private family service will be held to honor Floyd's life. His legacy of love, laughter, and friendship will forever be cherished.
