In Memory of Evelyn Melton
Evelyn Melton, age 97, a life long resident of the Shell Lake/Spooner area, died at home on Wednesday, December 11th, 2024, with family at her side.
Evelyn was born at home on April 8th, 1927, to parents Thomas and Mildred(Johnson) Waite. She attended the Evergreen Country School through 8th grade. On April 8th, 1944, she was united in marriage to Cecil Melton in Spooner. The couple lived in Montana for 7 years where she worked in a lunchroom in Shelby. The couple moved back to Shell Lake, and she worked at the Indianhead Flower Shop in Spooner for 26 years before retiring. Evelyn enjoyed playing cards, reading, writing notes to family and friends, and doing puzzles. She also loved gardening, cooking, and baking. Evelyn volunteered as a 4H leader when her children were younger and involved in 4H. She loved the Lord with her whole heart and demonstrated that by many hours of prayer for those that were hurting. She did this not only by prayer but by her many letters, cards, and words of encouragement. She was an amazing mother had great patience, taught her children responsibility and integrity.
Evelyn is survived by her children: Homer (Estell) Melton, of Danbury, Vicki Trott, Spooner, Richard (Karen) Melton of Shell Lake, Peggy (Jeff) Vesta of Spooner, Allan (Julie) Melton of Shell Lake, and Robin Melton of Burnsville, MN, along with her 16 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, and 19 great great grandchildren. Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband, Cecil, Son-in-law Don Trott, great grandson Tyson Garcia, great great granddaughter, Evah, brother Norman Waite, and sister Eileen.
Services are being held at Cornerstone Church in Spooner on Friday, December 20th at 11am with lunch following. The internment service will then be at the Shell Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will take place Thursday, December 19th from 4-7pm.
