In Memory of Evelyn Mary Petan
February 27, 1915 - November 24, 2018
Evelyn Petan, age 103, a resident of Spooner, Wisconsin, died on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at the Maple Ridge Care Center in Spooner.
Evelyn was born on the family farm just outside of Elmwood to parents Frank and Matie (Labs) Schutz. After her marriage to her first husband, Eugene Loomis, they took over the family farm until 1957 when she moved to Menomonie. In 1961, she married Harry Petan and moved to Spring Valley where they farmed until they retired in 1975 and moved to Elmwood. In 2001, they moved to Minong to be close to family. In May of 2009, due to health reasons, she moved into Maple Ridge Care Center in Spooner. In her younger years she loved to travel the area and square dance and also ride horseback, often in local parades. She was an active member of the St. Peter’s Church in Elmwood where she was a member of the Ladies Aide and also cleaned the church. While living in the Minong/ Spooner area, she attended the Calvary Lutheran Church in Minong and also the Spooner Baptist Church with her family.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter Sandy (Max) Ericson of Minong, WI, 10 grandchildren: Marvin (Judy) Bemis Jr. of Cannon Falls, MN, Duane (Cindy) Bemis of Spring Valley, WI, Tania Piper of Fall Creek, WI, John Ericson of Minong, WI, Tammy Miller- Janke of Ft. Atkinson, WI, Max (Kris) Ericson Jr. of River Falls, WI, Heidi (Jeff) Daleiden of Minong, WI, Angie Ericson of St. Paul, MN, Misty (Bill) Tollefson of South Range, WI, Christy Ericson of Minong, WI, many, many great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her husbands Eugene Loomis and Harry Petan, daughter Shelda Bemis, sisters Evangeline Schladweider and Vera Moe, and brother Edwin Schutz.
