In Memory of Eva J. Liden


July 15, 1934 - May 6, 2024

Eva Jean Liden passed away peacefully at Monroe Manor in Barron on May 6, 2024.

Jean was born in Williamsport, Indiana on July 15, 1934, the daughter of Oliver and Hannah (Johnson) Leath. She graduated from Attica High School in Attica, Indiana in 1952. She attended Indiana University, majoring in art and was a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority. She received her BA in 1956.

Following graduation, she taught art in Speedway, Indiana and in Deforest, Wisconsin. She attended graduate school at the University of Wisconsin Madison, where she met her husband, Gerald Liden. They married in 1959 and remained married for 53 years until Gerald’s death. They moved to Barron in 1962.

Jean was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, serving on the Women’s Committee and singing in the choir. She was a member of the Barron Music Club, holding a variety of offices. Jean was a talented artist and donated her talents to both organizations, creating posters and programs for a multitude of events. She was a lifelong fan and supporter of Indiana University; one of her great joys was watching various Hoosiers games on TV.

She is survived by her son, Carl Liden of Barron; daughter, Linda Liden Urban of Edina MN; grandchildren, Christopher, Peter, and Lois Urban; niece Lisa Mattis Grubb; and nephew, Mike Mattis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Liden; as well as her parents; sister, Olive Mattis and brother, Dudley Leath.

A funeral service will be held Friday, May 10th at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Barron with Rev. Jeong Lee officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church.

The family wishes to thank her Mayo Clinic Hospital caregivers and the staff at Monroe Manor for her care during the past several months.

Arrangements are being handled by Rausch and Steel Funeral Home in Barron.
