In Memory of Eugene Tschida


October 19, 1938 - September 30, 2020

Eugene 'Gene' Joseph Tschida, 81, of Cumberland passed away peacefully at Cumberland Care and Rehab on Wednesday, September 30, 2020. Gene was born on October 19, 1938 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Joseph and Helen (Ahartz) Tschida.

Gene was a proud military veteran, serving in the United States Army where he met his sweetheart Sandra "Sandy" Leah Virtel. They married October 24, 1959 and started their family in Lemont, Illinois. He went to trade school to be an electrician. Gene was an employee of Electric Motors in LaGrange, Illinois for twenty-eight years. He and his family always had a love for the Cumberland area and visited frequently after buying a cabin on Beaver Dam Lake in the 70s. In 1995 he and Sandy made Cumberland their permanent home where they raised their oldest granddaughter, Tiffany. Once settled he opened his business, Tschida Electric, until he retired in 2009. In retirement his spent his time fishing, hunting, golfing and socializing with his friends. He was involved with the St. Anthony Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Lions Club.

Gene is survived by his wife Sandy, his four children: Kathy (Stephen) Odika, Michael (Tammy) Tschida, Colleen (Anthony) Garwood and Thomas (Arlene) Tschida; nine grandchildren: Tiffany (Dave) Eggert, Tyler Tschida, Bryanna Garwood, Jasmine (Scott) Krehbiel, Christopher Tschida, Austin Garwood, Jared Tschida, Jade (Patrick) Kieffer, and Luke Garwood; five great-grandchildren: Albryannah Benson, Joseph Eggert, Ailah Eggert, Kinslee Tschida, and Jesse Eggert, his beloved sister, Sharon (Steve) Major, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Helen Tschida and grandparents, John and Mary (Moser) Ahartz.

Services will be held at St. Anthony Church in Cumberland with Father Tom Thompson officiating, on Monday, October 5, 2020 at 11 AM with visitation one hour prior to the service. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to St. Croix Hospice in his memory.

Skinner Funeral Home of Cumberland is serving the family.
