In Memory of Eugene R. Hoard


December 26, 1940 - October 16, 2024

Eugene Robert Hoard, age 83, of Chetek, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2024.

He was born in New Auburn, Wisconsin, on December 26, 1940, the beloved son of Earl and Hester (Mapes) Hoard.

Eugene was a man of many passions. He found great joy in the great outdoors, often spending weekends hunting and fishing in the serene countryside of Wisconsin. The thrill of the hunt and the tranquility of fishing trips were not just hobbies for him; they were cherished traditions that he eagerly shared with his family and friends, creating lifelong memories along the way. Racing snowmobiles was another of Eugene's great loves. His talent was well-known, and he relished the adrenaline rush of competition. Eugene also treasured the quieter moments in life. Sipping coffee with friends was a great joy for him. In addition to his outdoor pursuits, Eugene had a creative side that he expressed through woodworking. One of his favorite things to do was build birdhouses. Above all, Eugene’s greatest passion was his family. He devoted himself to their happiness, attending every gathering and celebrating each milestone with pride. He cherished the moments spent together, whether at holiday gatherings, family reunions, sports gatherings, or simple Sunday dinners. He had a lot of love to give and was always happy to do so. Eugene will be greatly missed by many.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Hester Hoard.

Eugene is survived by his loving wife, Janice Hoard, and his children: Eugene (Dawn) Hoard Jr., Daniel Hoard, Gretchen Hoard, and Kyle (Amanda) Hoard, and his stepchildren, Mike (Nicole) Baker, Rob (Jen) Grzesk, and Amanda Thompson. His grandchildren, Heidi (Nathan) Gustum, Jason (Karianna) Hoard, Dylan Hoard, Braxten Hoard, Haven Hoard, Andrea Hinzman, Alyssa Hinzman, Bretta (Kayla) Baker, and Matt Baker, as well as his great-grandchildren, Grace, Chloe, and Averie Gustum, Alton Hoard, and Ellie Hoard. Eugene is also survived by his sister, Joann Severude.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 26, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Ridgeland Community Center. Friends and family are invited to join together to share memories and celebrate Eugene’s life.

The Burnham-Ours-Kolstad Family Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
