In Memory of Ethel Mae Lorraine Becker


September 1, 1926 - August 31, 2023

Ethel Mae Lorraine Becker (formerly Schaffer-Merth), age 96, of Prairie Farm/Spooner.

She was born 9/1/1926, and slipped from our arms to enter forever peace on 8/31/23.

Ethel graduated from Clayton in the class of 1944 and wore her class ring faithfully until her death. She had worked after school as a waitress, worked in laundry, a creamery, a bakery and once was a drillpress operator. She loved collecting jewelry, embroidery, board games, and good beer. She was nonetheless a loving soul and loved by her family. She will be remembered for her sense of humor and stunning outfits. Dearly loved, deeply missed.

Preceded in death by parents, William and Mary (Brekke) Schaffer; husbands, Nick Merth and George Becker; daughters, Kathleen "Kathy" Wooden and Melinda Bennewitz; brothers, Robert, Melvin "Mike"; sister-in-law and dear friend, Charlotte Schaffer; two great-great grandchildren, and beloved pets, Little George and Toby.

Ethel is survived by grandchildren, Wendy (Chuck) Brown, Nick (Pamela) Helstern; four great-grandchildren, Cody (Alissa), Desirae, Tom (Malorie), Grace (Ryan) and Josh; 5 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Larry (Joanne) Schaffer; stepchildren, Terry (Wanda) Becker, Gary (Judy) Becker, Gale Zimbrick, Patricia (John) Erb, Rochelle Lentz and Twyla (Mitch) Miller; many nieces and nephews, and countless friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Monday, September 11th, 2023 at Skinner Funeral Home Cumberland. Visitation one hour prior. Luncheon will follow the service at the funeral home. Interment St. Ann Cemetery.
