In Memory of Elmer V. Johnson, Jr.


March 20, 1932 - October 24, 2022

Elmer V. Johnson, 90, passed away peacefully at Dove Healthcare – Rice Lake, with family by his side, on Monday, October 24, 2022 following a lengthy illness.

Elmer was born March, 20, 1932 in Beaver Township, Polk County, near Range, Wisconsin, to Elmer Johnson (Sr.) and Dora (Armstrong) Johnson.

He grew up on the family farm in that area. On October 6, 1956, he married Darlene Marske, they raised their daughters in Minnesota and Wisconsin. He and Darlene built a home near Turtle Lake in 1969. After working as a local delivery milkman for a few years in the Turtle Lake/Clayton area, he became a school custodian at Turtle Lake Schools until his retirement.

He and Darlene enjoyed being active in their church, First Baptist Church of Barron. They also enjoyed gardening; and being with their kids and grandkids. When Darlene passed in 2012, he moved to Dove Healthcare in Barron. He enjoyed many friends there and continued serving in various ways with his church family Many lives have been blessed by his gentle and caring ways. He enjoyed serving wherever it was needed, church, local food shelf, jail ministry, sharing God’s love and caring to all he met. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, loved by all, and will be greatly missed by friends and family alike!

Surviving are his daughters, Renee (Michael) Andrews & Gurine (Randy) King; 6 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; his brother, David (Judy) Johnson; sisters, Maxine Berndt & Muriel Paulson; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Dora Johnson; wife, Darlene, twin brother, Ellsworth, and sister, Evelyn Amonett.

A special thank you to nursing staff at both Dove Healthcare in Barron, and Dove Healthcare in Rice Lake during his illness and last months. Your loving and caring support meant so much to us all. We also appreciate so much the hospice help through the Marshfield Clinic and health system, thank you!

A service in celebration of his life will be held Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Barron. Visitation will start at 10:00 a.m., preceding the service at the church. Burial at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Mount Hope Cemetery in Turtle Lake.

Arrangements are being handled by Rausch and Steel Funeral Home in Barron.
