In Memory of Elmer Mabry

January 19, 1927 - March 20, 2021

Elmer Junior Mabry, 94, of Balsam Lake, Wisconsin passed away on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Golden Age Manor in Amery, Wisconsin.

Elmer was born on January 19, 1927, in Jacobs, KY the son of Thelma and Elmer Mabry.

The family moved to Wisconsin when Elmer was 5 years old. They lived in a few places in Polk County before moving to the family farm. After graduation from Balsam Lake High School he served in the Navy for 2 years. He would say it was one of the best investments he made as it provided him the opportunity to attend UW River Falls and graduate with a degree in education. He married his Kay in 1949 and moved back to the farm in 1951. To this union 4 children were born. He taught in Balsam Lake and the Unity School District for 32 years. He also coached Jr. High basketball during this time.

You may have seen Elmer and Kay enjoying time together fishing, dancing, playing cards, gardening, and traveling. Elmer enjoyed watching school sports and was very proud to show his lifetime pass when attending Unity games. Elmer spent many hours in the berry patch and shared his bounty with many.

We reckon it was his time to go because he no longer said “I’m not running any races” when asked how are you doing.

Elmer leaves to celebrate his memory: children: Brad (Barb) Mabry, Cathy (Richard) Lipka, Mark (Donna) Mabry, Janet Mabry, grandchildren:  Shannon Lipka Kriegel, Kyle Lipka, Becky (Esden) Brunette, Brian Mabry, Erin (Logan) Hilleshiem, Mitch Culver, Abby (Jake) Loen, and Kim Culver, great-grandchildren: Aiden Kriegel, Owen, and Colten Brunette, Whitney and Attley Loen and Everett Hilleshiem, siblings: sisters, Dixie Carston and Diana (Charlie) Tendrup, brother, Donald (Loretta) Mabry, in-laws, Avis Mabry, Jim (Shirley) Carlson, Bonnie (Gerry) Peterson, Dennis (Sharon) Carlson and many other loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Kay Mabry, great-grandson, Quinten Brunette, brothers: Ted Mabry and Berl (Fern) Mabry; in-laws, LeRoy Carston, Gene (Leta) Carlson and Charlotte (Bob) Nyquist.

There will be a visitation on Saturday, March 27, 2021 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 Noon at Holy Trinity United Methodist Church, Centuria, WI. All are invited to attend. The Funeral Service will be held at Noon for family, extended family and close friends.

Elmer will be laid to rest at the Balsam Lake Cemetery with full military honors following the funeral. Pallbearers will be his 8 grandchildren.
