Elmer Junior Althaus Age 88, of Rice Lake, WI formerly of Spooner, WI died Saturday June 16, 2018 surrounded by his family at Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake.

He was born on June 30, 1929 in Minnesota to Elmer Sr. and Neva (Schwarzkopf) Althaus. Elmer graduated from the Robbinsdale High School in Robbinsdale, MN in 1947. He was married to Ruth Martinson on August 15, 1953 in Fort Gordon, Georgia while he was serving in the United States Army as a Military Police and served 2 tours in Korea. Elmer worked as a Police Officer for Chisago County Sheriffs Department for over 20 years. He enjoyed painting, hunting, fishing, boating, giving people a hard time and a strong sense of sarcasm. Elmer was very active in Boy Scouts, Lions Club and in Faith Lutheran in Spooner, WI.

He is survived by 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Kurt and Michelene Althaus of Rice Lake, Tom and Linda Althaus of Saginaw, MN and Joe and Lonnie Althaus of Sarona, WI; 3 grandchildren, Alex, Lauren and Marisa; a sister, Darlyene Yarion of Florida; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Althaus; a son, Kent Althaus; and 2 brothers, Dale and Richard Althaus.

Graveside Services will be held at 11:35AM Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN, with Rev. Brent Berkesch officiating.

Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
