In Memory of Elizabeth D. Nichols


January 30, 1944 - October 25, 2024

Elizabeth “Bette” Diane (“Nowigumigookwe”) Mosay Nichols, 80, of Milltown, WI passed away at the Amery Memory Care Center in Amery, WI on October 25, 2024. Bette was born on January 30, 1944, in Amery, WI. The daughter of Thomas and Margaret (Skinaway) Mosay.

Bette and her husband, Eugene Nichols, were lifelong residents of Milltown. Bette was very traditional and spoke the Ojibwe language.

Bette’s first job was driving the school bus for Unity Schools. Later she worked as a dispatcher for the Polk County Law Enforcement Center. Still later, she was employed at the St. Croix Casino in Turtle Lake, WI as a shift manager.

Bette loved to plant flowers and always had a small garden. She also enjoyed doing puzzles, playing bingo, and watching golf tournaments on TV. Bette and Eugene were avid golfers and had a lifetime membership at Luck Golf Course in Luck, WI. They also played golf at Five Flags Golf Course in Balsam Lake, WI. Their love for golf included many trips to play in golf tournaments. When they weren’t golfing, Bette and Eugene enjoyed camping and canoeing with friends and relatives. They spent their winters in Benson, AZ. They bought a house there, which Bette sold after Eugene’s death in 2019.

Bette didn’t have any children of her own but enjoyed her nieces and nephews, her sister Phyllis’ great-grandchildren, and her special friend, Laura Bonnes.

Bette was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Margaret Mosay; her husband, Eugene; sisters, Susan Mosay Sayeed and Victoria Mosay Nichols; brothers, Toppy Mosay, Raymond Mosay, and Morris Mosay.

She is survived by her sisters, Phyllis Mosay Lowe and Shirley Mosay Juarez, countless cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at 12:00 P.M. at the Apple River Community Church in Amery, WI. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service. A luncheon will be served following the service and burial will be at the Balsam Lake Cemetery in Balsam Lake, WI at 2:30 P.M. Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Kolstad Family Funeral Home, Centuria, WI, has been entrusted with arrangements.
