Eleanore E. (Heitmann) Sjostrom, age 101 of Hayward, WI passed away Monday, June 10, 2019 at Hayward Health Services.

Eleanore Elizabeth Sment was born February 14, 1918 in LaSalle, IL, the daughter of Frank and Elizabeth (Klever) Sment.  She attended St. Joseph School in LaSalle.  On January 27, 1940 she was united in marriage to Aloysius Heitmann.  She worked many places including Westclox in LaSalle and Western Electric in Aurora, IL.  In 1964 they moved to Hayward, WI with their 3 youngest sons and purchased Pine Shores Resort, which they owned and operated for 6 years.  In October of 1974 Aloysius passed away.  On September 18, 1976, Eleanore was united in marriage to Martin Sjostrom of Seeley, WI.  They loved to travel and go dancing.  Eleanore retired in 1985 from Hayward Area Memorial Hospital after 15 years of service.  She was also a member of the Altar & Rosary Society, VFW Auxiliary, Hayward Senior Center and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hayward.

Eleanore loved life and was extremely devoted to her family, friends and her faith, praying the rosary daily.  She enjoyed dancing, especially a good polka, playing Bingo, watching Lawrence Welk and Wheel of Fortune every night, as well as playing any type of card game, with cribbage being a top favorite.  Eleanore was an avid Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Cubs fan.  Her life-long dream came true when the Cubs won the World Series in 2016.  Over the years she traveled to many places in the United States including Hawaii, Alaska, Branson, Las Vegas, Washington DC and California, but most of all Eleanore loved to go visit family living out of state.

Eleanore is survived by 1 daughter, Lois (Doug) Doermann of Streator, IL, 3 sons, Thomas (Mary Therese) Heitmann of Mendota, IL, Gerald (Carol) Heitmann of Reno, NV, Richard (Beth) Heitmann of Hayward, WI and 2 step daughters, Connie (Ken) Zimmerman of Boyd, WI and Trudy (Doug) Morin of Missoula, MT, 19 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren with number 40 on the way, 3 great, great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Eleanore was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Elizabeth Sment; husbands Aloysius Heitmann and Martin Sjostrom; 2 brothers, Robert Sment and Clarence Sment; 1 son, Jay Heitmann; 1 son-in-law, Larry Leonard; 2 grandchildren, Capt. Thomas Heitmann and Stephanie Mahar; and 3 great grandchildren, Samuel Cochrane, Morgan Leonard and Bosco Benvenga.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 pm, Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hayward, with visitation from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm prior to the church service.  Father Adam Laski will officiate.  Burial will be in St. Theresa Cemetery in Earlville, IL on Friday, June 21, 2019 with a gathering time at 10:30 am and burial service at 11 am.

Casket bearers will be grandsons, Aaron Heitmann, Michael Heitmann, Eric Heitmann, Scott Leonard, Patrick Leonard and Russell Zimmerman.
