In Memory of E. Louise Mateju
Evelyn Louise Mateju, age 87, of Cumberland, WI and formerly of Hayward, WI passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at her daughter’s home.
Evelyn Louise was born at the family home March 15, 1932 in Cable, WI the daughter of George and Margaret (Holly) Warburton. She was raised in Cable and attended school in Drummond, WI where she graduated from high school. She attended the University of Wisconsin, Superior for three years and then moved to Hayward, WI where she met Thomas Morgan. Louise and Tom were joined in marriage on December 9, 1959 in Chicago and then made their home there. Louise worked for Monument Builders and then Northwestern University as a secretary while living in Chicago. Tom and Louise moved back to Hayward and Louise began work with attorney Alvin Kelsey who became Sawyer County Judge. Louise continued working with the judge for several years. Louise and Tom purchased Ron-da-voo Supper Club near Stone Lake, WI and operated it for several years. Tom and Louise moved to Cable, WI and then Tom passed away on September 30, 1988. In 1989, Louise was joined in marriage to John Mateju and together they moved to Hayward. Louise was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic in Hayward where she served as an organist. She enjoyed doing various kinds of crafts and was an excellent baker. She loved her children and grandchildren dearly and made clothing and quilts for them all. She also enjoyed playing organ at local supper clubs and visiting the casino to play the slots. Louise will be remembered for her open heart and generosity.
Louise is survived by her four children, Terry (Nancy) Morgan of Cumberland, WI; Richard (Kathy) Morgan of Isanti, MN, Sherry (Donald) Stanchfield, MN; Linda (Jim) Morgan of Cumberland, WI; ten grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Tom Morgan and John Mateju; two sisters and one brother.
A memorial service celebrating Louise’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 11th, at the Hayward Funeral Home with Father Gerard Willger officiating. Music will be provided by Kathy Naylor and the Eternal Life Choir from St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. A time of gathering will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI at a later time.
