In Memory of Douglas P. Baker

November 17, 1962 - May 19, 2024

Douglas Patrick Baker, age 61, of Lac Courte Oreilles, WI, walked on into the spirit world Sunday, May 19, 2024, at his home in Skunawong on Big Couderay Lake after a courageous effort against recent health issues.

Doug was born November 17, 1961, in Spooner, WI the son of Florence (Isham) and Alvin Baker Sr. Doug was born and raised in Lac Courte Oreilles and the Hayward area. He graduated from Hayward High School, attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, and later in life attended classes at the Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe College. Doug worked for his father, Al Baker Senior, at his sign shop and served his community. He is probably most known for his long-time role as the General Manager for the WOJB radio station and as a Johnson O'Malley Tutor for the Hayward Community School District to help support LCO youth.

He was a storyteller with a great sense of humor, Doug lived life to its fullest. An avid hunter, fisherman, rockhound, and outdoorsman, there are many fond stories of Doug's adventures that will live on around the tables of friends and family. Those most frequently told involve burning daylight to get to the deer stand, the big bucks and the ones that got away, Doug's Ford Pinto, big hair bands, sasquatch, and his friends and family; and not necessarily in that order. Doug didn't have children but was a major part and fierce supporter for his niece Melissa and nephews Mathew and Trevor; taking the 3 kids on many adventures in his Dodge pickup, fishing boat, and to their first rock concert for Christmas in middle school.

A son, a brother, an uncle, a cousin, a teacher, a mentor, and a loyal friend - Doug had a big heart and was known and loved by many who will celebrate his life and miss him dearly.

He is survived by his mother Florence Baker; his brothers Alvin (Lisa) Baker Jr. and Bill (Barb) Baker; niece Melissa (Adam) King; nephews Trevor (Tiffany) Baker, Mathew Baker Sr., and Nicholas Baker; great nieces and nephews Kaylissa Baker, Mathew Baker Jr., Autumn Baker, Benjamin Baker, Robbie Baker, Evelyn Baker, Elijah King, and Gertrude King; and many cousins, aunties, and uncles.

Doug is preceded in death by his father, Alvin Baker Sr., his niece Bobbi Jo Baker, and his beloved labs Chunk and Casey.

Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 22nd at Pineview Funeral Service.
