In Memory of Dorothy Veit


July 5, 1922 - February 26, 2019

Dorothy Elaine Veit Age 96, of Rice Lake, WI died Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at the Barron Care and Rehab in Barron, WI. She was born on July 5, 1922 in Rice Lake to Vern and Edla (Nelson) McGill.

Dorothy graduated from the Rice Lake High School in 1941 and then entered the United States Navy and served for 2 years and was Honorably Discharged. She was married to Donald Veit on October 14, 1944 at the Anacostia Naval Base in Washington D.C. Dorothy worked for Montgomery Wards for 15 years and JCPenney’s for 13 years and retired in 1988. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church since her baptism on October 15, 1922, Sons of Norway and VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Dorothy loved to travel and escorted many bus tours to Florida.

She is survived by 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Allen Hustad of Cumberland & Kathy and Rob Thompson of Cumberland; a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Michon Veit of Birchwood; 5 grandchildren, Jim Hustad, Kayla Thompson, Ryan Thompson, Madelynn Veit and Wyatt Veit; a niece, Barbara Dillard and a nephew, Vernon Bartz. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Veit; her parents, Vern and Edla McGill; 2 sisters, Evelyn Ellefson and Margaret Thorson; and a niece, Lou Wagner.

Funeral Services will be held at 11AM Saturday, March 2, 2019 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Rice Lake, Rev. Grant Aaseng officiating, with interment in the Nora Cemetery in Rice Lake, where Military Rites will be accorded by the Rice Lake Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the Funeral Service at the Church on Saturday.

Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to the Bethany Lutheran Church.
