In Memory of Dorothy M. (Ness) Carpenter
Dorothy May Carpenter, age 102, passed away on November 1, 2024, in Chetek, Wisconsin.
Dorothy was born on May 28, 1922, in Two Harbors, Minnesota to Nels and Olga Ness. She was confirmed in 1936 at the Two Harbors Emmanuel Lutheran Church She graduated from Two Harbors High School in 1940. Dorothy married Roy Shogren on December 7, 1940. She was widowed after 14 years of marriage on April 25, 1954 leaving her with two children and one not yet born.
On September 15, 1956, Dorothy married Louis Carpenter. They moved to Chetek, Wisconsin in May 1960 where they purchased the Spot Supper Club, operating it until 1973 when they sold it to Dave Larrimare. They moved into the city of Chetek where they purchased the Chetek Beauty Shoppe, Oaks Motel, and Frosty’s Drive In.
Dorothy was a life member in 3 organizations, the American Legion, VFW, and Sons of Norway transferring from Two Harbors, MN, where she had joined them in 1946. She was a member of the Chetek Lutheran Church, WELCA, Gregarson Homemakers, and the former Chetek Senior Citizens Naomi Circle where she served as treasurer.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Nels and Olga Ness, husbands, Roy Shogren and Louis Carpenter, son, Charles Shogren, and brother, Chester Ness.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Pamela (Earl) Mayfield, Two Harbors MN and Timothy Shogren, Chetek WI, 3 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, November 11, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the Burnham-Ours-Kolstad Funeral Home in Chetek, Wisconsin. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM and go until the time of the service.
