In Memory of Dorothy L. Kodesh


May 26, 1924 - January 20, 2023

Dorothy Louise Kodesh Age 98, of Haugen, WI, died on Friday, January 20, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Matka Milujeme te - (which means Mother We Love You).

She was born on May 26, 1924 in Haugen, WI to Ferdinand and Anna (Baker) Bruha.

Dorothy attended school in Haugen and was married to Anton Kodesh on December 4, 1941 in Haugen. She was a cook for many years in restaurants, owned and operated Front Porch Antiques in the 80’s and was the clerk for the Brill and Haugen Post Office for 25 years. She loved to crochet booties and dishrags, read, bird watching - especially Chickadees and watching the Green Bay Packers. She was involved in the American Legion Women's Auxiliary and the Senior Center. Dorothy loved spending time at her cabin in Shell Lake, WI. If you asked her to sum up her life and family she would say - “look at what we started”. Dorothy was a lovely, bright and wise mom, sometimes sassy but always caring. We love you always Matka. Godspeed on the wings of an angel. Dorothy and Anton created a dynasty of which she was the matriarch.

She is survived by 5 children, Patricia Saffert, Kathy (Larry) Greener, Debra (Bob) Van Beek, Barbara (Terry) Nelson and Tony (Benita) Kodesh; 23 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren and 28 great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Anton Kodesh; a daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Vincent "Bucky" Eraquam; a grandson, Vincent Eraquam; 4 sisters, Marge Votruba, Blanche Stodola, Ann Fetting and Mary Crotteau; 2 brothers, Fred “Bud” Bruha and Edward Bruha.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM Monday, January 30, 2023 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Haugen, Father Adam Laski and Father Dave Oberts officiating, with interment in the church cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the Funeral Service at the church.

Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, WI is assisting the family with the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to Holy Trinity Catholic Church or the American Legion Women's Auxiliary.
