Dorothy learned to embroiderer in grade school and has been sewing ever since. She stitched dish towels and pillow cases, knit slippers and dish cloths, made quilts and rugs for family and friends. She volunteered at the food pantry, and donated quilts for those in need, always thinking of others. She made the best baked beans and got requests to bring them to a party, picnic or potluck. She loved to garden, giving up canning at age 80. She baked dozens of apple pies at a time, made all kinds of treats at Christmas; all to give away. She treasured the many flowers and trees that she and Ed had planted on the property.

If raising five children weren’t enough, she had a place in her heart for animals, over the years she raised cats, dogs, chickens, geese, goats, a pig and a horse. Dorothy worked at Shell Lake Hospital, Nick’s Drive-In, and in addition; she and Ed owned and operated the Spooner Taxi business for many years. Whenever she had a spare moment, Dorothy liked to play a family favorite marble game called “Don’t Get Mad”. In lieu of flowers, Dorothy asked that donations be given to Ruby’s Pantry Food Shelf located in Spooner, WI.
