In Memory of Dorothy J. Anderson

June 29, 1929 - December 2, 2022

Dorothy (“Dottie”) Jean Anderson, age 93, of Rice Lake, WI, formerly of Wauwatosa, WI, passed away on December 2, 2022.

Dorothy was born on June 29, 1929, in Milwaukee, WI to Louis and Mildred (Duval) Frank. Dottie attended Carthage College where she met the love of her life, Richard (“Dick”) Anderson.

They were married on September 3, 1949 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. They continued their education together at the University of Iowa where she received her degree in Home Economics Education. After graduation in 1951 they moved to Milwaukee, WI. In 1954 they moved to Wauwatosa where they raised their family, built lifelong friendships and were active members of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. In 2007 they moved to Rice Lake to be closer to family. They formed additional friendships and became members of Bethany Lutheran Church. Dottie’s life was centered on love for her family, devotion to her faith and fellowship with friends. Dottie and Dick shared 62 wonderful years together. A favorite family spot was Crystal Lake near Wautoma, WI - a place she visited for 90 years. They also took many car trips with their children to visit relatives and sights across our nation. They were in several bridge clubs with friends and were active members of their church. After Dick’s passing in 2011, Dottie’s spiritual strength sustained her for the remainder of her life. Fond memories of Dottie include her endearing humility, her love of music and playing piano, her reminiscing of the past, her remembrance of everyone’s birthday, and her sharing of homemade butterhorns. Volunteering was also an important part of her life. She served as a volunteer at Milwaukee Lutheran Hospital, Luther Manor in Wauwatosa and Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake. She also knitted more than 1,000 baby caps for newborns at the hospital. Dottie blessed the lives of her four children: Susan (Douglas) Raether, Karen (Donald) Garrick, Robert (Jean) Anderson and Kristine (Stuart) Schaefer; she was a wonderful grandmother to her ten grandchildren: Kristin (Thomas) Davis, Kara (John) Guerra, Julia (Ryan) Patzer, Brent Garrick, Ryan (Heather) Anderson, Tyler Anderson, Michael (Ashlee) Anderson, Kaitlin (Brett) Schultz, John (Sarah) Brendel, and Amy (Brandon) Hicks; and as a great-grandmother (“Gigi”), she cherished her fifteen beloved great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard, her parents Louis and Mildred, and her sister Lois (John) Cole. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 16, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Bethany Lutheran Church in Rice Lake with Pastor Arthur Bergren officiating. There will be a visitation at the church prior to the service from 11:00 to 1:00. A private interment will be held at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake is providing funeral services for the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dorothy’s name may be made to either The Salvation Army of Barron County (1150 12th Street, Barron, WI 54812) or We Share Food Pantry (PO Box 54, Rice Lake, WI 54868).
